Audi / Volkswagen Electrical System Defects – Deadline to Opt Out of Class Action Rapidly Approaching

A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT regarding pervasive electrical system problems in Audi vehicles has been reached in federal court. The deadline to postmark a request for exclusion (i.e., “opt out”) of the settlement is August 26, 2024.  Failing to opt out means owners of class vehicles are automatically opted-in, and potentially release their valuable individual claims.

The listed class vehicles include:

  • 2019-2023 Audi A6
  • 2019-2023 Audi A7
  • 2019-2023 Audi A8
  • 2019-2023 Audi Q8
  • 2020-2023 Audi Q7
  • 2020-2023 Audi RSQ8
  • 2020-2023 Audi S6
  • 2020-2023 Audi S7
  • 2020-2023 Audi S8
  • 2020-2023 Audi allroad
  • 2021-2023 Audi RS6
  • 2021-2023 Audi RS7

(It is possible this list omits other vehicles.  Since Audi and Volkswagen vehicles typically share some platforms and certain technology, it is not clear whether any Volkswagen models share the same problems.)

The problems class members describe include illumination of various warning messages including the following:

  • “Electrical system: malfunction! Safely stop vehicle”
  • “Electrical system: malfunction! Please contact Service”
  • “Parking aid: malfunction!”
  • “Transmission: malfunction!”
  • “Rear spoiler: malfunction!”
  • “Drive system: malfunction! Stop vehicle safely”
  • “Traction control: malfunction!”
  • “Tire pressure monitoring system: malfunction!”
  • “Parking brake: malfunction!”
  • “Automatic start/stop system: malfunction!”
  • “Start/stop system: malfunction!”

These issues may be followed by a loss of power inwhich the vehicle enters “limp mode” or “limp home mode,” which allows the motor to continue operation at greatly reduced speed. Anyone who has been in a vehicle that goes into limp mode while at freeway speeds will recognize how dangerous this can be.
